THE STORY

Grayson Delaney is a hero you'll never forget. The second son of the Earl of Camden, he knows what it’s like to do something so horrific that he can never be forgiven. As penance, he lives up to everyone’s low expectations. But when his father tires of his son’s wastrel existence, Gray is forced to earn his living by running the brewery his father won in a card game. Now, he must learn everything about the brewery before anyone discovers that he is the new owner, while proving to the woman with whom he’s fallen desperately in love that he is nothing like her father.

Lady Margaret Bradford has one passion – the brewery that’s been in her father’s family for generations. But from the moment Grayson Delaney enters her life, she realizes she’s not only in danger of losing the brewery that she loves, but also of losing her heart – to a man exactly like her father.

Now, she must not only safeguard the brewery from accidents that are getting more deadly by the day, but protect her heart from a man who causes her to lose control of her emotions at every turn.

If only he had never kissed her and awakened the passion she was so certain she’d buried.

In More Than Willing we see a guilt ridden younger son with a secret he hides from the rest of the world. As the incident which causes him to be guilt ridden happened in his teen years, he naturally see events more severe than an adult would do and it stays way longer with him than it would have with a normal adult. He feels that he has a black soul and believes his family believes so too, so with the logic of the young, he lives up to that reputation. His parent who had missed non-deliberately the opportunity to set him right, finally has enough of his son's behavior and gives him a sort of farewell gift with an ultimatum, a manor house as a home, he knows his son is avoiding like the plague and a brewery, he won in a card game to afford him a living. Essentially, he provides tough love with a cushion.

The heroine is the daughter of a viscount who had been a younger son and the daughter of a prosperous wine merchant. When the father becomes the heir and has to shoulder responsibility over his inheritance, a brewery and the estate which is entailed but dependant on the brewery, he is unable to live up to the responsibility and it is his wife who steps in. Their oldest daughter witnesses a marriage which was a love match but due to circumstances became a living hell for both parents, the father who no one treats with respect because he does nothing to earn it and the mother who works long days do keep the family going but knowing that with her work she diminishes her husband's standing in the eyes of those around them and who depend on the brewery for a living.

The hero is rather intelligent and he knows if he shows up at the brewery and announces he is the new owner, he runs the risk of key staff leaving him, so he starts at the bottom and works his way up. Three months into his employment, the heroine who has taken over after her mother's death and in the absence of the father, recognizes the hero from her one and only season as a spoilt member of society with a rakish reputation. She does not know that her father has lost the brewery in a card game and she is guarding a secret that could make her lose the brewery and with that her and her two younger sisters' livelily hood.

There is an immediate attraction between hero and heroine but neither wants it to be; the hero believing him to be a bad apple and the heroine sees her father's behavior and manner in the hero. And so begins the dance around their respective secrets. The heroine tries and to some degree succeeds in helping the hero to confront his demons. He in turn helps her against an unwanted suitor, further the interests of the brewery (which are really his but she does not know that) and helps her keep her secret which he does not know for certain but I believe he guesses.

Later he tries to use this secret in bending the heroine to go along with his wishes. I believe he really loved her that he was afraid to lose her and just did not know better.

Reconciliation with his father, talking with his father about the events which led the hero on his path to almost destruction, helps him to realize his way to win the heroine was doomed with failure and helps him to find the right words to convince her.

Both hero and heroine had legitimate hang-ups. Personally, I would have loved to see them confronting their respective demons a little sooner. The "I am not good enough for her" and the "I don't want a marriage like my mother" went on a tad too long for my liking. Otherwise, it would have been a 5 star for me.

More Than Willing edition by Laura Landon Romance eBooks Reviews

This is a very well done historical romance set in late 1800's England. I loved this fresh approach to the typical second son of an earl dilemma. The characters are richly drawn and believable. The H struggls with childhood trama and the h is forced to cope with running a business as a woman. The setting of a brewery is effective. I do feel that the HEA was pushed out a little too far. But this is a delightful story and well worth a reader's time.
My 6th Landon book was not a charm. I can't get past the 2nd chapter. It's downright boring. This is very unlike her usual stories. I just wish I had started to read it right away rather than stock up on her books because now I can't return it. It's about a woman who runs a brewery and the whole 2nd chapter is explaining the brewing process... like where's the romance? It seems the author was more interested in showing her knowledge of the brewing industry than getting her story going. It's a flop for me. Not going to finish it. My time is too valuable.
Another wonderful book compliments of Laura Landon. I will god through every one of them
because her stories are complicated page turners.
Set outside London in the 1800's, a time of dukes, duchesses, their elaborate balls
and of course, great wealth.
When Gray pushes his lifestyle too far, his allowance is removed and he is forced to grow up
by being given possession of a brewery, which was won in a card game, not by him and supporting himself.
The complications arise when a beautiful young woman, who is supporting her sisters and the workers by capably
running this brewery, not aware her father lost it in a card came. Gray, who knows nothing about
running a brewery, begins his employment there, as a common laborer to learn all about the operation.
Read about this independent and intelligent young woman as she accomplishes her responsibilities
and lets her heart get in the way. Trying all the time not to live the life she thought her mother was
so very unhappy with.
Laura Landon has done it again. She has created a world rich in history, intrigue and romance. What I love about her work is that from the moment you begin to read you become engrossed in both the storyline and the characters. Grayson Delaney goes from his pampered life, living off his allowance to having to earn his keep when his father cuts off his source of income. He leaves him his mothers estate and a brewery he won in a game of chance. If Grayson cannot manage the business he will be left penniless. Haunted by memories of a fire that killed his mother when he was a boy he has never returned to his mothers estate. Nor has he allowed a women to enter his heart. Maggie Bradford is strong willed and independent. Living in a world where women are expected to know their place and have no business using their brain she successfully runs the brewery in her fathers absence. Since her mothers death she has maintained the business while her father spends the money only to return from London to refill his pockets before he is off again. Maggie is unaware he lost the brewery in a card game and when she notices Grayson he is pretending to be just a common laborer. She has no idea he now owns the business and he intends to keep it that way. He needs her to show him how it runs and fears if his true identity leaks out the rest of the workers will walk. Maggie is determined to make enough profit to allow her sisters a season in London. She needs to find suitable husbands before her father leaves them in further debt. She is willing to sacrifice her happiness to ensure his sisters find husbands who will love them. From the moment Maggie confronts Grayson the sexual current is ignited. Both have secrets they hide yet both cannot deny the inevitable. This is a story of love, forgiveness and acceptance. The only fault in this book is that it came to an end.
