The Horse Dreamer Equinox Cycle Book 1 edition by Marc Secchia S J Secchia Children eBooks
I was throughly entertained with this book - read it in one (long, ha!) sitting as I wanted to know what was going to happen next. This is a story of a teenage girl's courage facing a life altering event and how she learns to go on living; as well as discovers more about an enchanted world in which she keeps finding herself.
I can't really say more about that or I'll give too much away. The reader really needs to experience the story as the plot unfolds.
This book is different from Marc Secchia's other stories and his language use and rhythm of story telling is to me more complex than the Shioni, Shapeshifter, and other series/books... That being said, I throughly enjoyed it.
The first time I read it - and I am enjoying it even more the second (more slower) time around - I was at first distracted by the complex word play in the dialogue between Zaranna and her family - they like to play with words - a lot. But... once I fell into the rhythm of the story I found that I enjoyed it and laughed quite often at some of the more creative phrases.
Mr Secchia and his daughter have created a wonderful plot and magical world together. Well done!
Looking forward to reading the continuation of this story.

The Horse Dreamer Equinox Cycle Book 1 edition by Marc Secchia S J Secchia Children eBooks Reviews
Dedicated readers of Secchia know him as an author who can create believable worlds that no one has even thought of before – case in point singing to whales as a vocational choice. But this latest book takes us in a whole different direction and it’s a wild ride. Literally. From the beginning of the novel when a tragic car accident takes the legs of a teenage girl through to the evolution of the story into what actually happened, this book moves at breakneck speed. Nothing is as it appears initially and everything unfolds in very strange and interesting ways.
Secchia is a master at dialogue and this book steps that skill up another notch. He moves between worlds and species with a witty and trademark conversational nonchalance that actually made me laugh out load. Come on now, having a horse character complain that horse hide makes them itchy is pretty unique! He always makes the physical environment a key component of every book and this one steps that up also. The topography and magical creatures in one world and the physical beauty and struggles of another interplay wonderfully.
But of course, the game changer is character development and this books sings, or neighs, with strong characters. They grow organically throughout the read and their actions are as natural as one could expect given the various species transformations.
This is a well-written and fast-paced novel with fun and intriguing plotting and a solid storyline. I look forward to the next installment of Equinox. Just when I thought this author could not surprise me more, he did. I highly recommend this fun book for readers of all ages who enjoy well-written fantasy adventure. Canter on over to your sofa, or barn, and enjoy the fun!
I haven't finished it yet, it was very confusing. Is she actually experiencing being a horse or not???
Wonderful book, well up to the high standards Marc Secchia has set with his other books.
Marc's writing is always incomparable. He has come up with some unforgettable characters beginning with Hualiama....Feynard...Zaranna ....Jesafion and many more in between. I always enjoy Marc's books and I hope he will go on coming up with new ideas and more unforgettable characters.
Zaranna’s world is changed forever by a devastating car wreck, leaving her as a double amputee. It was a turning point in her life and her magic, which propels the girl into a "dream world" where horses rule. The two worlds were once connected and now Zaranna can visit it in her dreams. An evil dragon is out to kill her and she must save a prince. Her quest between worlds reveals secrets on both sides. If you love fantasies you should get this new series.
This feels like it will be almost impossible for me to review coherently because this book has a LOT going on. Seriously, a lot a lot. It provides an extremely elaborate world, backed up by our own world but across two continents, with multiple fantasy races (humanoid and non-humanoid) with their own factions ... and a breathless busy style with a rambunctiously voiced heroine who quips constantly.
I really enjoyed it.
Content wise, there is a bit of high level flirting, some intense moments (basically they get the worst out of the way right off the bat as the character endures a catastrophic car accident within the first chapter ... but other traumatic incidents are peppered within) and there is some incidental nudity (characters shift between worlds, arriving without clothes) but more on the awkward side than anything else. Probably for me this would be a PG13 but it depends on a young reader's sensitivities.
