Death Taxes and Cheap Sunglasses A Tara Holloway Novel Diane Kelly Books

Tara Holloway, gun-toting Special Agent of the IRS, is back in Death, Taxes, and Cheap Sunglasses. While Tara’s boyfriend, Special Agent Nick Pratt, and DEA Agent Christina Marquez are off to infiltrate a drug cartel run by the murderous El Cuchillo, Tara and her partner Eddie Barton tackle a variety of cases, including an art museum that doesn’t seem to know much about art (macaroni mosaics, anyone?), a wild life refuge that may not be as charitable as it claims, an identity thief (that one sends Tara to a toga party . . . dressed in a fitted sheet), and a charity scam on Facebook. Throw in some forbidden legwork for Nick, and Tara is up to her neck in excitement. This is a series I never miss (and I love Kelly's Paw and Order series just as much).

Death Taxes and Cheap Sunglasses A Tara Holloway Novel Diane Kelly Books Reviews

I am in love with this series by Diane Kelly. I haven't finished this one yet, but it's just as good as all the others in the series and I am looking forward to the next. I am really rooting for Nick and Tara!
I've read all of the Death, Taxes and.... books in the series and love each one more than the last... Very good mystery reading, if you like just a little of murder and mayhem... nothing scary or over the top, but still a little more intense that the normal cozy mysteries.. some which can also be very good, but others can be down right 'silly. Not the Death, Taxes book... try one, you'll love the series
I love Diane Kelly's books and especially the Tara Holloway series. I did miss the fact that Nick, Tara's boyfriend, wasn't in this one very much but I still enjoyed it.
The thing I like about Tara is that she is not a helpless woman but also not an unrealistic super woman. She is also not some silly shopaholic or fashionista -- she just seems like a normal person that is relatable even to a reader, such as myself, that is much older than her (although she can shoot a gun a lot better than most of us can!)
I really enjoyed this book, it's a quick read & as entertaining as the rest of the series. The order & speed in which Tara captures her criminals is a little cheesy and overplayed, especially her encounter with the very last criminal. I think this book came up a little short in comparison to the rest of the series in that there was not enough attention given to the side story of Nick & Christina, it left the reader wondering why the author brought up their story at all if she wasn't going to elaborate. Overall, the book does accomplish the goal of entertainment that only quirky Tara can provide.
Diane Kelly's books just keep getting better. I love how she and her main character Tara are maturing and have really gotten into a groove in these books. I've enjoyed them all, and this one might be my favorite. It's a great story line (as usual), and a great, funny thread that she weaves throughout the story (cheap sunglasses in this book, other things in other books). For me, it's the perfect combination of easy read, funny, engaging, captivating but not stressful (as some mystery/detective type books are for me), and I look forward to the next one!

I highly recommend this whole series. You won't be sorry you started reading them.
I've read all the previous books in this series, and unfortunately the quality of them has gone steadily downhill. This one was flat-out unreadable. By page 14 the lead character had outdone all her previous childish tantrums and behaved so badly that I found myself hoping this title would see her done in by the bad guys. Unfortunately that hadn't happened by the time I finally gave up on the book as it had descended into non-stop rants by a whiny baby.
I love this series. Tara is one gutsy heroine who takes her job as an IRS Special Agent and when she is on the case of a tax cheat, nothing will deter her, well maybe one or two will, until she catches her *man*. This fast paced and non-stop action drama entertained me from the first page grabbing my attention immediately. I love the style and format of how this story is presented, letting us feel what Tara feels as she goes about her daily job. From the art gallery to the toga party to the sanctuary, all of this had me quickly turning the pages to see what happens next. Adding the cheap sunglasses skits to the storyline was perfect. This was a great read and I can’t wait to see what cases Tara and her colleagues tackles next. I’m sure it will be a hoot.
